“Registration of attendees at our Job Fayre in July”

This is a pivotal time to join us here in Rotherham. We want the best qualified social workers and team managers to come and join us on our journey to becoming an outstanding borough by 2018.

To achieve our ambitions we have put in place a radical restructure, an invigorated senior leadership team and a significant increase in our workforce so we can put more people on the ground, recruit talented managers and fulfil our vision; to be considered 'outstanding' by the children, young people and families who we support every day.

Our overarching ambition is to be a child–centred borough – which is all part of our commitment to create a performance-led culture that puts the child at the centre of everything we do.

This has resulted in a wholesale change of how children’s social work is delivered by Rotherham Council, making working for us satisfying and rewarding in so many ways.

What does this mean for our workforce?

We have radically restructured enabling us to deploy much smaller teams. This creates a greater degree of supervision and a more appropriate caseload level – meaning our practitioners focus on fewer customers, ensuring those who need us most get the attention they need.

Our locality teams are placed within the communities they serve, so they really get to know the neighbourhood; building close relationships with partners, children and families in the local area. This deepens trust and familiarity, helping us to put vulnerable children and young people at the centre of what we do. By being on the ground and visible in schools, homes and centres, we forge vital links with the community, opening up communication and creating an approachable presence in Rotherham.

We have put in place accessible leadership and a nurturing culture which encourages people to speak out and voice their observations and recommendations. This gives our social workers a formal platform to provide feedback on the service we are providing so we can continue to listen, learn and improve every aspect of our working structure, processes and environment.

We have purchased and plan to implement new systems and tools which will result in major IT improvements. This should mean far less admin and paper work. With greater efficiency and time saving, our staff are freed up to focus on their case load and on making a difference to the families they work with.

We have invested in training programmes and set out a clear career development pathway. This includes continued professional development with ongoing, practical training, reaching senior management levels. At Rotherham there is a definite ladder to be climbed for those with talent and ambition.

We are here to support the development of the next generation of Rotherham's citizens. To do this we will work even more closely with other agencies, harnessing the resources of our communities to work towards alleviating social disadvantage. We want our children and young people to be physically healthier and emotionally happier.

What can you expect if you join the team?
